An Errand Entrusted To Us

As a child we used to get annoyed when we eere sent to an errand by parents. They asked us to deliver message to the neighbor. Or they sent us to market to buy things. When we finished the errrand, however, they used to give us something good such as delicious meals or candies. Then we came to think that it was a right thing to do an errand. It is the same with our heavenly parents. They give us some errands for our benefit.

When we look at the bible, we can see many people who obeyed the words of God and received much blessing. Even though it may look small and insignificant, obedience to the words of God can bring great miracles. In the Book of John, we can see a wedding feast at Cana in Galilee. When the wine was running out, the mother of Jesus told the servants to obey the words of Jesus.

At that time, there were six stone water jars which were used by Jews for ceremonial washing. And Jesus told them to fill the jars with water and take the water to the master of the banquet. When they obeyed the words of Jesus, they could see the miracle of water changing into wine. The servants just obeyed the simple commands of Jesus. They took some water and fill up the jars with the water and took it to the master.

They did not add something into the water. Neither did Jesus tell them to do something miraculous or onerous. Simply he told them to fill up the jars with water and that was it. Peter could also experience the same thing. Even though he worked all night to catch fish, but he could not find any. While they were washing their nets to finish the work, they were told by Jesus to let down the nets one more time.

Luke 5:4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” 6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

When they did, obeying the words of Jesus, they could see a miracle. They caught so many fish that they could not pull up the nets by themselves. They called up other fishermen and together they brought up so many fish that the ships began to sink. All these people could experience miracles when they obeyed the words of Jesus, who was God, who appeared as man in the flesh.

Today God came in the flesh for the second time and giving us errands. Even though God can do everything by Himself, but to give us a chance to do the gospel work and participate in the blessings of the kingdom of heaven, God entrusted us small errands.

2 Timothy 4:1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

God gave us this errand, “Preach the word.” Also he said:

Ezekiel 2:3 He said: “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have been in revolt against me to this very day. 4 The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn. Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’ 5 And whether they listen or fail to listen—for they are a rebellious people—they will know that a prophet has been among them. 6 And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live among scorpions. Do not be afraid of what they say or be terrified by them, though they are a rebellious people. 7 You must speak my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious. 8 But you, son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not rebel like that rebellious people; open your mouth and eat what I give you.”

God gave us small errands of delivering the message of God to the people of the world. God does not ask us to write a theological thesis for the errand. We don’t have to prepare anything for deliver the message. Since already the message was written down by God, we just need to carry it to the people. We don’t have to have great ability and competence for a speech. What we need is to deliver the message as it is written in the letter. Let us deliver the words to the whole world and do the errands entrusted to us, and bring smiles to our heavenly father and mother.
