Passover, the testimony of eternal life
On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’ ” So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover . . . While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Mt 26:17–19, 26–28
So, through the Passover, human beings can eat Jesus’ flesh and drink His blood. Ultimately, the New Covenant Passover—the way to receive eternal life—is the greatest testimony of all that God has given us through His promise.
Since Jesus has said that we have no life in us unless we eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, how can we be saved without celebrating the Passover? Those with an obscure faith should not be over confident in their salvation. They must have the testimony of salvation that is confirmed in the Bible.
We can have eternal life and enter heaven when we are re-created with Jesus’ flesh and blood through the truth of the Passover. That’s why Jesus wanted so eagerly to eat the Passover with His disciples. The new covenant Jesus Himself established through His flesh and blood reflects His earnest desire to save us sinners and take us to heaven.
